Location: This role is based at our Redfern centre. 


Term: Part-time, 22.8 hours per week (0.6FTE). 


Reports to: Engagement and Operations Lead

Salary: $68,500pa (pro-rated) plus superannuation. Fringe benefit is available, providing up to $16k per year tax free. For more information, click here. The role is for two years, renewable, with a three month probation period. 



About Story Factory:


At Story Factory, we believe that stories can change lives. We focus on enriching the lives of young people in under-resourced communities through quality creative writing programs, improving their writing skills, increasing their confidence and expanding their future prospects. 


Story Factory runs a wide variety of fun and engaging creative writing programs at primary and high schools across Sydney and Western Sydney, at our centres in Redfern and Parramatta, and digitally across Australia.  


Since opening in 2012, our achievements include:


  • 70,000+ student enrolments, with more than 8,000 enrolments in 2024;
  • 15% of student are Indigenous and 49% are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds;

The role:


We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Administration Officer to join our team at Story Factory. This vital role provides day-to-day administrative support to senior staff, particularly the Executive Director and Engagement and Operations Lead, and acts as the primary point of contact for our Redfern centre.


You will be responsible for the smooth running of our centre, ensuring it remains a welcoming and functional space for young people, staff, and the local community. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on juggling multiple priorities, enjoys working independently, and has a keen eye for detail.


Story Factory is a Child Safe Organisation. Like all staff at Story Factory, the Administration Officer must adhere to our Code of Conduct at all times. A current Working with Children Check and Police Check are prerequisites.


Key Responsibilities: 


  • Manage the maintenance and daily operations of our Redfern centre, ensuring it is at all times a safe, tidy and welcoming space for young people, staff and community members.
  • Like all staff at Story Factory, welcome the public and the local community into our Redfern centre, explain what we do, and forge links into the community.
  • Assist with IT and systems queries by coordinating with external providers to help resolve issues. 
  • Coordinate and manage staff logistics and activities, such as travel arrangements, meetings, events, and related administrative tasks. 
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director and assist in the organisation of their duties. 
  • Provide administrative support to the Engagement and Operations Lead to complete operational tasks and projects.
  • Provide other general administrative support across the organisation.

Essential: 


  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and anticipate team needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who attend our centres, respecting and valuing diversity. 


Desirable:


  • Familiarity with platforms such as Xero, Salesforce, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Experience in administrative coordination.
